In the world we live in, fundraising is a necessary evil of travel sports. With disposable income decreasing, we need to find better ways to fund our kiddos participation without breaking the bank or sacrificing in other areas of our lives. The easiest way to accomplish this is via fundraising. I know it seems like fundraising is not worth the effort. However, the reward FAR outweighs the effort. Read More
We’ve just come to the end of another high school softball season which makes way for the next travel softball season to begin. And this year, just like every other, the season was littered with players across the country who received serious facial injuries after being hit in the face by a batted ball. This year it hit very close to home for us because a former teammate of my daughter’s was one of those victims. However, she was one on the lucky ones. She only (I say only like it’s no big deal) sustained a broken nose in two places which required a painful reset. Read More
The Science Behind Pixar
The newest exhibit at Chicago’s Museum of Science & Industry is a Disney-lovers delight. The Science Behind Pixar details the science behind the making of Pixar movies. As a lover of these movies since the beginning, I never really put much thought into what goes into making them. I figured they drew a couple pictures, transferred it to a computer and the computer did the rest. Little did I know that it’s more than just some computerized drawings. There’s clay modeling. There is math… and a lot of it. There is innovation. And similar to live-actions movies there is riggings, sets & cameras and lighting. Who knew?! Read More
Starting with this post, we will be kicking off a series of team building activities as this is a surprisingly important aspect of any team dynamic. Forbes Magazine even called team building the “most important investment [companies] will make”. That’s high praise. Read More
Welcome to my first movie review for Team Mom 365! I am so excited to bring my love of movies to you on a regular basis. However, before I begin, I should probably let you know a little about my movie fandom. First and foremost, you should know I have a very eclectic taste in movies. At any given time, you could find me watching a classic Disney animated feature, a 60’s beach movie, a John Wayne western, a sports movie or a sweeping musical. Some of my favorite movies include The Sound of Music, Field of Dreams, Mulan, The Cowboys, Imitation of Life and White Christmas. As you can see I lean towards movies which strike an emotional chord with viewers whether it be a tug on the heart-strings or a rolling belly laugh. I like to see character growth from the start of the movie to the end and I am a sucker for happy endings which typically leave me in tears. I know. Why would you cry at a happy ending? I just do. As we enter the waning days of Spring (maybe), it’s the perfect time to start thinking about preparing for summer. For my family, summer means spending copious hours at a softball fields or beach volleyball tournaments across the Midwest which in turn means trying to find ways to beat the heat. However, beating the heat isn’t only for you spectating… it’s for your athlete as well. Read More
Next week one of the biggest volleyball tournaments in the world will begin in Orlando. Over 26,000 athletes along with their parents, siblings, coaches and fans from across the United States (and even the world) will be converging for two weeks of sun, fun and volleyball at AAU Volleyball Junior Nationals. This means hundreds of thousands of people will be looking for fun things to do in Orlando.
Before we really kick this blog into high gear, I think it’s appropriate to slow down for a second and delve into a team mom’s duties. When talking about this subject with friends and family they typically say, “It’s just snack schedules, right?” Oh, these poor unfortunately souls. They don’t understand Team Moms are the backbone of any team. Without them, the nuisances of team management would be left to the coach or manager who is already busy enough putting together practice plans, running drills and creating successful line-ups.
